“The Cartiers and The Maharajahs: At Home With the Maharani of Baroda” Webinar:
Sept. 4 at 9 a.m. ET

Generations of Cartiers and maharajahs
“Baroda had one of the most phenomenal jewelry collections in the world—including world-famous diamonds like the Empress Eugénie, the Star of the South, the Akbar Shah, and the Dresden,” says Brickell (pictured far r.). “When Jacques Cartier visited, he was staggered by the quality he saw in the seven-stranded Baroda Pearl Necklace and the three-tiered Baroda Diamond Necklace, and we will be looking at both of these phenomenal pieces.”

This talk, led by Francesca Cartier Brickell, a sixth-generation descendant of the Cartier family and author of the book The Cartiers (reviewed here on JCK‘s All That Glitters blog),  will focus on Jacques Cartier (the author’s great-grandfather) and his visits to India in  1912. Brickell will speak with the Maharani of Baroda, Radhikaraje Gaekwad (pictured second from l., above), about the connection they share, thanks to the gem-rich legacy of their ancestors.
