Instagram and Facebook, both owned (along with LinkedIn) by social media giant Meta, have some relevant announcements and developments for jewelers planning their social media strategies.
Facebook Suggests Links Should Go in Comments, Not Posts
Professional users should put links in the comments rather than in posts themselves, according to somewhat unofficial advice from Facebook.
“Links in your caption can be distracting and reduce your reach. Try adding a link in the comments instead,” reads a recommendation that users have been seeing recently in their Facebook professional dashboard, reported Social Media Today.
Digging into the recommendation, Social Media Today noted an alternative practice regarding links in posts: Include a link, but delete the URL after the post is composed (and Facebook has generated a preview). Doing so will leave an image embedded with the link but not the actual URL.
The article also mentioned “including all of your post links in the first comment, and an image in the main post, which is what many high-performing publishers on Facebook are currently doing.” And that “may be a better way to go,” said Social Media Today.
All Video Uploads on Facebook Will Now Be Reels
Whether or not a Facebook user intends to make a reel, they’ll find themselves posting one if they upload a video, as part of a new process intended to streamline video creation. Livestreams will still be classified as videos, Facebook said.
“In the coming months, all videos on Facebook will be shared as reels, eliminating the need to choose between uploading a video or reel. Reels on Facebook will also not have any length or format restrictions,” explained an announcement by Facebook.
Instagram Adds Features to Edits
Instagram’s new Edits app, which helps users to create their videos (or, more specifically, their reels), has unveiled “Keyframes” and other enhancements, the platform said in a post last week on its @creators account.
Keyframes enables more granular editing, for more professional-looking content—with the feature, users can pinpoint specific moments in a video for editing. Instagram Edits also has new voice enhancement options, including removal of background noise from voice-overs, as well as additional text effects.
