For fashion buyers in Paris during market week in early October, the NouvelleBox showroom on Rue de Richelieu in the city’s 1st arrondissement was not to be missed. The historic 18th-century mansion where the French playwright Molière once lived became a temporary home for 28 fine jewelers showing their newest collections, for the holiday season and beyond.

Naturally, pearls were key to their assortments. From a fresh batch of pearl designs at HOWL, part of the For Future Refence curation showing alongside NouvelleBox, to the pearl-centric collection by Danish designer Lene Vibe, the designs on display showcased the organic gem’s versatility.

Baroque pearl earrings in one-of-a-kind silhouettes, pastel-hued keshi pearls in glamorous but still affordable necklaces, mother-of-pearl rings in iridescent hues, vintage akoya strands—the variety on display even included designs featuring rare Mexican pearls from the Sea of Cortez.

“If you don’t know anything about pearls, you’re not even going to know what you’re looking at,” Vibe told JCK, pointing to a slew of designs set with peach and pinkish pearls from the Sea of Cortez.
“I love them,” she added. “I have a huge collection, but it is new for me to sell them. I’m so attached to them. I love that they’re so rare. They have all these deep colors, like a rainbow.”

As a longtime pearl devotee, Vibe was in like-minded company at NouvelleBox. Leslie Paige, a designer from Southern California, showed a collection starring oversize baroque pearls in dramatic yet minimalist gold settings.
“I’ve always loved pearls—they have this glamorous and ladylike quality to them,” Paige tells JCK. “I felt that I could make them even more glamorous, while keeping them simple and keeping the pearl the star.”
