GIA Lab Head Tom Moses Stepping Down

Share

Tom Moses, GIA’s chief research and laboratory officer, is leaving his job in May, after 50 years working at GIA.

GIA said there are “no plans” to replace Moses, who heads the grading labs and research efforts. But GIA’s statement said Moses and GIA “have been preparing [for this transition] for the last few years.”

Last August, GIA appointed Sriram “Ram” Natarajan senior vice president of laboratory operations.

In honor of his half-century of service, Moses will be given the title of chief of research emeritus.

Moses joined GIA in 1976, at its lab in Santa Monica, Calif. In 2002, he received GIA’s Richard T. Liddicoat Award for Distinguished Achievement. Since 2013, he has served on GIA’s board of governors. He will leave that role when he departs GIA.

GIA president and CEO Pritesh Patel said in a statement that “50 years is not simply a measure of time—for GIA, it has been a period of remarkable growth driven by Tom’s commitment, curiosity, and leadership. His lasting legacy lives in the standards he helped shape and the generations of professionals he guided and inspired.”
