GIA Opens Dubai Lab, Expands Verification Services

Share

On Feb. 19, GIA opened its first lab in Dubai, at Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).

The GIA Laboratory DMCC will only serve clients operating in Dubai’s free trade zones and cannot accept submissions from other locations in Dubai. However, it does plan to accept intake from other countries. Services performed in Dubai will be for D-to-Z diamonds weighing up to 3.99 carats.

GIA also announced that its Report Confirmation Service, which it introduced at its New York City lab in January, is now available at all GIA laboratory locations.

The new service confirms that a GIA-graded diamond (with or without inscription) matches its corresponding GIA report. For a limited time, it will be offered without charge.

Both walk-in and courier submissions will be accepted, although walk-in clients will be accommodated quicker. It is preferred, but not required, that the original GIA report or a facsimile accompany the submitted diamond.

GIA says wait time can vary, but anticipates it won’t be long: 15 minutes for one loose diamond, one hour for two to five stones, and 24 hours for more than that. GIA will also accept mounted diamonds for confirmation, though that would take longer.

More details can be seen here.
