World Diamond Day Dazzles With Heartfelt Posts and Stories

Share

World Diamond Day took off on Wednesday with branded testimonials, consumer-facing marketing, and an impressive social media presence by the trade that signal how powerful this event could be.

Today was the inaugural World Diamond Day, designated for April 8 by organizer the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) and the commemoration’s founder, the World Diamond Heritage Board. They envisioned a worldwide effort to share stories of natural diamonds—and just like they hoped, people in many different countries and time zones used social media to tell what this precious gemstone means to them.

“It seems to be one of the most meaningful and impactful global campaigns ever,” World Diamond Day founder Nicolas Chrétien tells JCK.

Diamond grading lab GIA put out a press release about the rarity of natural diamonds. Substack writers such as Tara Donaldson of The Literary Jewelry Box explored the role of diamonds in their lives. Ben Bridge and other jewelry brands sent emails to customers about natural diamonds. Elle magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and BusinessLine were among the media outlets that did stories about Diamond Day.

The Natural Diamond Council created a package of social media tools, including this logo, for industry members to use on World Diamond Day.

While anyone was welcome to take part, the NDC worked with a range of international jewelry brands, including Repossi, Cece Jewellery, FoundRae, Anita Ko, and Buccellati, to involve voices from both the fine and high jewelry markets.

Retailers like Signet, Chow Tai Fook, and Jawhara participated, as did trade groups such as the World Diamond Council, the Responsible Jewellery Council, India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council and International Institute of Gemology, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, and the Dubai and Shanghai diamond exchanges.

Diamond-producing countries Botswana, Angola, Namibia, South Africa, and Canada also joined the chorus. People from more than 50 nations were expected to participate, the NDC said in a statement. Heartfelt stories, videos, and photographs were posted on various social media platforms.

On LinkedIn, the Natural Diamond Council’s CEO Amber Pepper thanked her team for all it did to support a day “for us to pause and reflect.” Pepper wrote, “Love, commitment, authenticity, simplicity, and sincerity. The values I hold dear.”

In response, photography and AI expert Martin Pitonak commented, “Authenticity and sincerity are so vital when telling a brand story, especially with something as personal as jewelry. It is refreshing to see a post that prioritizes the emotional weight of a piece over a standard product shot. When the values are clear, the marketing usually takes care of itself.”

But Instagram is where World Diamond Day truly showed its influence and potential. Before the day was half over, there were more than 1,000 #worlddiamondday posts on the site, including some that created news.

One example is jewelry blogger and Instagram influencer Bebe Bakhshi, who used her huge Instagram following to promote World Diamond Day and announce a new podcast, Diamonds Decoded, which she cohosts with World Diamond Council president Feriel Zerouki.

De Beers Brands CEO Sandrine Conseiller made three separate Instagram posts—one showing her favorite De Beers London necklace, which features rough and polished natural diamonds, and another highlighting her appreciation for the women in the diamond industry, including friends in Botswana.

Conseiller’s third post was the showstopper: an image of her holding a 177 ct. natural diamond during her first visit to South Africa. “A pure nature wonder formed 3 billion years ago,” she wrote.

Some #WorldDiamondDay stories stood out for how emotional they were. Take Vishal Zadafiya’s post. The marketing professional wrote about his earliest memories of his father’s jewelry factory, where he first saw raw stones “transformed into brilliance.”

“23 years later, that curiosity has grown into deep industry knowledge and global experience. Since joining Hari Krishna Exports in 2006, I’ve had the privilege of promoting natural diamonds worldwide through trade shows, campaigns, and storytelling,” he wrote. “It’s more than a profession—it’s a legacy, a passion, and a pride I carry every day.”

Another favorite Instagram post came from SGL Labs cofounder Chirag Soni, who shared a picture of a natural diamond engagement ring on a woman’s hand.

“Years ago, when I chose this ring, it wasn’t just about the sparkle, it was about everything it stood for. The quiet certainty of knowing I had found my person, the nervous excitement before asking her to spend a lifetime with me, and the promise of building a future together, one moment at a time,” he wrote.

“Over the years, it has witnessed laughter, challenges, growth, and countless little moments that truly define a marriage. It’s brilliance hasn’t just endured, it has reflected every chapter of our journey. That’s the beauty of a natural diamond. Formed over billions of years, each one carries a story long before it becomes part of yours and then, it becomes a part of your legacy.”

Despite all the World Diamond Day activity, there is room for the event to grow. Few people outside the jewelry-industry bubble shared their stories—which means the NDC has work to do in the year ahead to engage consumers in the day’s celebration.

The World Diamond Heritage Board has said on LinkedIn that it conceived of World Diamond Day as “the activation of a collective voice—one day each year when an entire industry pauses, aligns, and speaks with intention.”

It chose April because diamond is the month’s birthstone, and the 8th because the number eight holds deep meaning across cultures, representing balance, harmony, and perfection, Chrétien said. He also noted that when turned sideways, an 8 becomes the symbol of infinity—reflecting the idea that a diamond is forever.
