ShopHQ, the 35-year-old home shopping channel and site formerly known as ShopNBC and ValueVision, seems to be shutting down, according to a communication obtained by JCK as well as numerous posts on social media.
“It was announced late last week that ShopHQ will be closing imminently,” said a mass email from a company executive to a jewelry vendor, which was forwarded to JCK. “We are in the process of wrapping up operations.”
ShopHQ’s customer service and social media teams did not respond to requests for comment. At press time, the ShopHQ site was still up, though its return policy now reads, “As of April 18th, 2025 all items purchased from ShopHQ are final sale and cannot be returned,” and the ShopHQ credit card is being discontinued.
Parent company IV Media announced earlier this month that it was closing ShopHQ’s facility in Eden Prairie, Minn., and that 72 workers would lose their jobs. In January, the channel announced another 128 layoffs, though at the time, it insisted it was staying in business, just “moving away from cable.”
Recent social media posts from hosts, employees, and vendors maintain that ShopHQ is on its way out.
One former supplier posted a “termination notice” from the ShopHQ drop-ship team, which said that the company has “dimmed the lights on the studios and will be ceasing operations.”
Host Jason Zimmer wrote on Instagram, “This is my last post about future shows at ShopHQ as they are now officially closed.”
Founded in 1990, ShopHQ endured a dizzying series of name changes and business shifts during its 35-year history. Originally known as ValueVision, it was rebranded as ShopNBC in 2001, after the Peacock network took an equity stake. During that time, the publicly traded company was America’s third-largest shopping channel behind QVC and the Home Shopping Network, and positioned itself as an upscale alternative to its two rivals.
In 2013, ShopNBC became ShopHQ, as the company tried to create its “own brand.” Two years later, the channel changed its name again, to EVINE Live, after it acquired the assets of e-commerce platform evine.com.
That lasted until 2019, when the channel re-rebranded itself as ShopHQ, after determining the Evine name cbange was “confusing and ineffective.”
Business got bumpier during the cord-cutting era, which has led to a general decline in sales at TV shopping channels. In June 2023, ShopHQ’s parent company, iMedia, filed for Chapter 11. Two months later, IV Media, a subsidiary of Innovation Ventures, purchased iMedia’s assets for $55 million.
Innovation Ventures is best known as the producer of 5-hour Energy drinks, and its owner, billionaire Manoj Bhargava, admitted post-purchase he didn’t know much about fashion or jewelry, but said he planned to invest at least $20 million in ShopHQ to make it work. It did not respond to a request for comment.
