JCK Jewelry Agenda: Week of Aug. 12

Who says things slow down in August? Get ready for an action-packed week—you’ve got NY Now and Melee the Show in New York City and a huge international gem and jewelry fair in Mumbai, India. Plus: Some Crazy Rich Asians are coming to town on Wednesday, and we’re making a night of it…

NY Now, a trade show held at New York City’s Javits Center that encompasses a number of categories, kicks off today. Head straight for the Handmade Designer Maker section on level 3, a hub for studio jewelry designers who do exquisite work (e.g., Diana Mitchell, Jennie Kwon, and Emilie Shapiro). Don’t miss Judi Powers’ new collection—the designer is a longtime JCK editor favorite. Read our profile of her in the July/August issue.

Melee the Show: August 12

Today’s the last day to hit Melee the Show at New York City’s High Line Hotel to see the latest from a curated group of jewelry designers; many have already been vetted by the likes of Catbird, Twist, and Moda Operandi and are names that cool girls recognize and follow. Among them are JCK editor favorites Karen Karch and sister line Karch Wolfe and London-based jeweler Ruth Tomlinson, best known for her one-of-a-kind engagement rings.

India International Jewellery Show: August 12–13

People are already talking about Crazy Rich Asians, which releases on August 15—are you ready? Of note: Hong Kong high jeweler Michelle Ong created pieces specifically for the characters played by Lisa Lu and Michelle Yeoh. Keep your eyes peeled for the Sunkissed brooch smothered in white and yellow diamonds.
