Designers Get Into Spooky Season With ‘Hocus Pocus’–Themed Jewelry

Much like Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, or any horror film, Hocus Pocus has become a Halloween favorite—and the fandom for the Sanderson sisters only grew in 2022 with the Disney+ release of Hocus Pocus 2 and lots of tribute jewelry.

When the sequel came out in late September, covens of wannabe witches instantly tuned into the brand’s streaming service to watch it. Disney+ reported that the movie about the somewhat lovable witches has been its No. 1 film premiere on the platform to date. You’ll likely also see lots of kids in Hocus Pocus-related costumes roaming the streets this Halloween.

Jewelry of all kinds—whether it is officially licensed gear such as RockLove’s pieces or tribute jewelry on websites like Etsy—has sprung up to pay tribute to the sequel and its beloved stars, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker. It makes sense when you consider how beloved Parker is for the jewelry she wears in her other projects.

Mary
Set on a white gold band, Mary’s ring features a central red ruby, surrounded by a combination of pear-shape rubies and round diamonds, with silver spiderweb detailing on either side.

One jeweler who is having fun with the new film is U.K. retailer Steven Stone, who came up with his own selection of engagement rings inspired by and designed for the three witches. The brand says The Sanderson Collection highlights gems with hues that also represent the sisters’ odd ways. The rings were created for the opening of the film and are not going to be sold.

“With the original being such an iconic film, we were keen to celebrate the release of Hocus Pocus 2 with something unique. The Sanderson Collection features three engagement rings, one for each of the witches,” says Steven Stone’s creative director, Maxwell Stone.

“The distinctive gemstones in each ring match the colors that each witch wears, but we also took inspiration from their eclectic personalities,” Stone says.

Sarah ring
Even SJP would likely adore the tribute ring to her Hocus Pocus character Sarah, which features three amethysts and a row of round diamonds on a rose gold band.

This includes a ring that highlights Sarah’s sweet nature and pear-shape rubies to represent the emotional bond and connection Mary has with her sisters. Winifred got the star treatment as well, and the four-prong setting in her ring ensures that her vivid emerald is the star of the show in the same way that she is.

Contrasting her red hair and matching her dark green and blue ensemble, Winifred’s ring features an emerald that is flanked with pear-shape sapphires either side. Featuring three amethyst stones and a row of round diamonds on a rose gold band, Sarah’s ring perfectly encapsulates her youthful, feminine personality.

Mary’s ring features a central red ruby surrounded by a combination of pear-shape rubies and round diamonds, with silver spiderwebs on either side. Stone says the ruby has become a symbol of love and commitment, which is perfect for Mary, as there’s nobody that she loves more than her sisters and is committed to making Winifred happy.

Both Winifred and Mary’s rings feature spiderwebs, which serve as a reflection of the passage of time and the patience of the spider awaiting its prey, Stone says. That’s fitting for the witches because the movie says they waited 300 years for a virgin to light the Black Flame Candle during a full moon on Halloween.

With such success, who knows if there will be a Hocus Pocus 3, but there certainly will be more jewelry to honor this witchy trio.
