Van Cleef & Arpels’ newly opened boutique in Hong Kong’s Alexandra House shows the brand’s commitment to the Asian market with a more expansive, modern, and welcoming space that emphasizes the brand’s history and creativity.
The 6,070-square-foot store designed by longtime brand partner Jouin Manku opened June 29. It moved to a new space from the Prince’s Building, where it had been since 2011. The brand has had a presence in Hong Kong since 1981.
The Paris-based design studio said in a statement that the two-story store has greater volume, fluidity, and a sense of spaciousness that allows Van Cleef & Arpels to create new salons and experiences that unfold as a client walks through the space.
The exterior façade is the first phase of a visitor’s experience. Its materials include light-toned stone and large glass windows. The exterior also features white plaster petals and cloud-like structures designed to have a “rain of light” effect, Studio Jouin Manku said.

On the interior, the ground floor uses natural elements like oak paneling and neutral colors of white, beige, and laurel green. Plants installed in several areas around the grand staircase add to the feeling of calm, the designers said. Everything is curved so there are no harsh lines throughout the space.
The ground floor also has a presentation space where Van Cleef & Arpels can hold exhibitions that highlight the brand’s creativity and history. For the boutique’s opening, this area has a special exhibition entitled Welcome to Van Cleef & Arpels’ Universe, which showcases a selection of iconic and new jewelry and watches.
Going up the large staircase with light limestone steps, the space opens into an area for the brand’s fine jewelry, high jewelry, and watches. Tall display cases and glass columns elevate the eye toward a handcrafted ceiling, which uses iridescent filters to diffuse the light.

One standout feature in the boutique is the seating area for tea ceremonies. Its walls are clad in rose-colored stone, bringing some of the local landscape into the store. The design studio worked with L’École, School of Jewelry Arts in Hong Kong to create the stone’s rosy hue.
This area also includes a salon meant for events and special occasions; its ceiling has hand-embroidered French fabric to differentiate it from other spaces. Nearby, there is another salon that serves as a private meeting area that uses various shades of beige to create an intimate atmosphere.
The second floor with its wood and shades of midnight blue is devoted to watchmaking that honors the brand’s “Poetry of Time” philosophy. Its ceiling and floor both have motifs that replicate the Van Cleef & Arpels guilloché technique to give this space its own ambiance, the design studio said.
The Hong Kong boutique also has a special area to showcase the brand’s perfumes, which the design studio said reflects Van Cleef & Arpels’ Place Vendôme boutique.
