10 Colored Diamond Jewels To Get Fancy With

It’s Not Easy Being Green for Kermit the Frog, but then, he never had J. Lo’s dance moves.

Jennifer Lopez, star of the recent film Marry Me and internationally recognized pop artist, made all the headlines when she revealed her re-engagement to actor Ben Affleck with an 8.5 ct. green diamond engagement ring.

Lopez has had a thing for fancy colored diamonds—and has seemingly spurred the public’s interest in them as well.

For her first engagement to Affleck in 2002, the singer received a 6.1 ct. pink Harry Winston diamond, thus sparking curiosity for pink diamonds.

There have been others, but J. Lo’s fascination with fancy color diamonds—along with a number of other high-profile celebrities’ rings making headlines in the past—has had a lasting impact on the demand for them at the consumer level, and you can bet you’ll see a spike in interest now.

The news related to Bennifer’s engagement has cooled off, but what’s left in its wake is an interest in not only green diamonds, but other fancy options as well. And for those already engaged or married, it might prove irresistible not to want a colored diamond. That being said, take stock of what’s in store not just for engagement rings, but earrings, pendants, and bracelets too—a demand for color is surely coming.

While bold, colorful gemstone pieces are expected to be popular this summer, it’s more realistic that colored diamonds will be more accessibly sized (and priced). These are styles that, while certainly of the moment, won’t be labeled as “trendy”—they’ve got more staying power than a passing fad. Sure, customers won’t be expecting to come out of the store with a J. Lo–size green diamond ring, but their attention is now tuned to the possibility of more than a classic brilliant diamond, and what do shoppers love more than a wealth of options?
