The Emeralds To Go Big With This May

Share

It’s emerald season! Ah, May. The month when spring weather (eventually, usually?) arrives and we get a three-day weekend to celebrate. And best of all, it’s the month of my birth.

Okay, maybe that’s only best of all for me. But this month I get to enjoy the glory of my birthstone on a more personal level than I do any other stone (there’s just something about calling it “your” birthstone, isn’t there?), and celebrate right along with it.

I have a few small emeralds from when I was younger, and though I truly do cherish the gem, I haven’t felt much compelled to purchase more. The sole reason is this: When I put on a piece of jewelry, it’s super unlikely I have plans to take it off anytime soon. As emerald is fairly delicate, that doesn’t really bode well for me.

That’s what got me to dreaming about an extra-extravagant emerald piece for myself. I mean, if I’m to be reminded to slip off a piece of jewelry for showers and sleep (and other potentially hazardous-to-gemstone activities), it might as well be a hunk of something fabulous that’s doing the reminding, right?

A cocktail ring, a major necklace. A pair of earrings that you can feel the weight of, that smack you in the face (in a super good way) with the turn of your head. You know the kind.

Briony Raymond emerald ring

It won’t be this year, but perhaps in a few years, on an especially big birthday (I won’t say which one), I’ll procure my emerald dreamboat piece.

Because, while I adore emerald in truly every shape, form, and size, there’s nothing quite like seeing it in all its mega glory. So as we celebrate May and all those born during this wonderful month, let’s enjoy these extravagantly excellent jewels that honor them just as well as they do the more-precious-than-precious gemstone.
