Terry Chandler, who has headed the Diamond Council of America (DCA) for the past 24 years, will retire as the educational group’s president and CEO by the end of 2025.
The DCA board has begun a formal search for Chandler’s successor. That person will be announced in the next few months, the board said.
Chandler began his retail jewelry career at Michelson Jewelers when it was a family-owned chain of four stores. He eventually became store manager, supervisor, senior vice president, and then a partner in the Paducah, Ky.–based company, helping grow it to 12 stores.
After serving on the DCA’s board for 12 years, Chandler took over as president and CEO in 2001. The organization has been affiliated with Jewelers of American since 2017.
A DCA press release credited Chandler with expanding DCA’s reach and influence, enhancing its certification programs, and fostering industrywide collaboration.
“Diamond Council of America has been a huge part of who I am for decades,” said Chandler in the statement. “I am so thankful to the DCA board of directors, our members, my team, and Jewelers of America for their part in making DCA what it is today.”
In 2018, Chandler received a Triple Zero Award from the American Gem Society.
