Greek jeweler Melanie Georgacopoulos’ latest collection, Eclipse, is a study in contrast—both visually and conceptually. Anchored in black and white, the designs explore not just aesthetic duality, but the emotional and physical tension between opposites.
“Black and white are technically shades devoid of color, yet they function with deep emotional resonance,” read the collection notes. “This collection captures the celestial tension where black is the absence of light and white its full presence, using opposing materials as evocative anchors.”
Best known for her work with pearls, Georgacopoulos introduces onyx here for the first time, expanding her material vocabulary. At the center is the Eclipse necklace—a departure from the traditional strand, with a chain-forward silhouette designed to give equal presence to each element.
“It took months to explore [the new design] and finalize it on paper, then create various 3D models and finally choose the right pearls,” Georgacopoulos says. “The final piece can be assembled in a few days but the process behind it took months to ensure that every part is perfect and the proportions are just right!”
A double row of pearls weaves through sculptural onyx links, creating a fluid form that can be worn at multiple lengths thanks to a detachable clasp. While the onyx loops and custom diamond clasps were outsourced, Georgacopoulos strung each pearl herself—maintaining the hands-on approach that defines her work.
“I feel that black and white are very strong together and work so well as opposites,” the designer says. “Because I work instinctively, I also felt that this combination strongly reflects our times, where strong opposing opinions dominate and people feel the need to define their boundaries.”
The entire Eclipse collection is available now.
