Britt’s Pick: Marie Lichtenberg’s Fanion Pendants

Marie Lichtenberg does it again.

The Paris-based fine jewelry designer has an uncanny ability to get things exactly right, as showcased in her irreverent creations that consistently capture our hearts. Lichtenberg’s booth is always one of my favorite stops during Las Vegas Jewelry Week.

This year, the former fashion editor set out to explore her deeply personal interpretation of Americana—and absolutely nailed it with Fanions, a collection unveiled at the Couture show.

These miniature flags—fanion is the French word for pennant—tap into sports iconography’s current popularity in fashion. With her editorial background, Lichtenberg has a remarkable knack for translating cultural trends into covetable jewelry. Even if a style weren’t having a moment, she’d likely find a way to make one for it.

I knew I loved the Fanions collection as soon as I arranged the pieces across my hand. Smooth, weighty, and unmistakably luxurious, the pendants blend talismanic jewelry with team-inspired aesthetics, finished with just a hint of antique charm. That something as simple as a sports pennant can be transformed into an object this elegant is a testament to Lichtenberg’s discerning eye and dedication to her craft.

While another designer might have interpreted the sports theme through bright enamel, pavé diamonds, or high-polish metal, Lichtenberg instead leans into the look of a cherished heirloom. For color, Lichtenberg uses ceramic (the first time her brand has featured that material).

The result is an assortment of compelling jewels that warrant being passed down. Bearing such messages as hope, In God we trust, and amour, these luxury talismans disguised as sports memorabilia strike the perfect balance between sentimentality and whimsy.

In a season dominated by sports fandom and athletic aesthetics, Fanions feels like a master class in how fine jewelry can participate in the conversation while remaining timeless. What’s more, Lichtenberg—whose design is undeterred by fads—might have joined the chat without even intending to, and in turn has come out as a trailblazer in how jewelry and sports intersect.
