Argyle Rose Features One of the Mine’s Last Diamonds

Share

Rio Tinto has unveiled the Argyle Rose, featuring one of the last diamonds mined by the Argyle mine in East Kimberley, Australia.

Designed by Australian jeweler Solid Gold Diamonds, the Argyle Rose has a total of 3.25 carats of rare Argyle pink and blue diamonds encrusted in a rose motif, surrounded by white diamonds and hand-set in platinum and 18k gold.

The center stone is a rare 1.36 ct. fancy deep pink radiant-cut diamond. The surrounding petaled design of pink and blue diamonds totals 1.89 carats, plus 2.80 cts. of white diamonds.

The piece can be worn as a ring or statement pendant. Solid Gold, located in the mine’s former hometown of Perth in the state of Western Australia, is selling it for 2 million Australian dollars, or approximately U.S. $1.3 million.

The Argyle mine, which produced both low-value smalls and rare, highly collectible pinks, ceased operation in November 2020 after 37 years. It was owned by Rio Tinto.

The Argyle Rose is part of the Argyle Pink Diamonds Icon Partner program, which Rio Tinto introduced to preserve the provenance and integrity of Argyle pink diamonds.
