From Taylor to Zendaya, Celebrities Are Choosing Plain Gold Wedding Bands

With the world finally getting a look at pop-music sensation Taylor Swift’s wedding band, jewelers predict more couples will start opting for simple gold bands with hidden meanings and symbolism to capture some of that Swiftie style.

The influential singer and husband Travis Kelce each displayed their bands over the weekend—at a wedding and at a Kansas City Chiefs preseason game, respectively—and the reaction was, well, swift. She stacked her well-known Kindred Lubeck–designed engagement ring with a petite yellow gold band.

Swift isn’t the only one. Zendaya and Tom Holland recently were spotted wearing their matching wedding bands, which also look like simple gold. And while Georgina Rodriguez wears a significant diamond engagement ring from soccer sensation Cristiano Ronaldo, she too appears to be wearing a plain gold band.

British fine jewelry designer Isabella Hewitt, who recently debuted a wedding capsule based on her personal jewelry, says heavily detailed engagement rings pair beautifully with classic wedding bands, and vice versa.

Cove Something Blue
To make each ring unique, Cove Fine Jewelry often adds a subtle design touch, like this blue gemstone, to its minimalistic wedding bands.

“With Taylor’s ring, the simple band allows the more intricate engagement design room to breathe and helps create balance, without the overall stack silhouette feeling too large or fussy. How the two rings sit side by side is an important consideration when designing for a bride,” Hewitt notes.

Swift’s ring and band feel so uniquely her, and open the door for more brides to personalize their bands in a similar way, says Cove Fine Jewelry founder and designer Alyson Iarrusso, who recently introduced her first engagement collection.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a special engraving tucked into those bands, tying it back to their love story,” Iarrusso says.

Kinn Studio’s Jennie Yoon agrees. Swift is the master of the secretly symbolic, Yoon says, and her wedding jewelry likely shows that.

“What I love about something so understated is that there’s still so much room to make it personal,” Yoon adds. “Knowing how much Taylor loves hidden meanings and symbolism, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were an engraving or even gemstones tucked inside the band with a message that’s just for her. That’s something our clients love to do too. The most meaningful details don’t always have to be the ones everyone else can see.”

Liza Sexton, owner and creator of Cleveland-based Liza Michelle Jewelry, says Swift has the power to shift wedding trends toward new designs—and, in this case, more classic ones.

“Celebrity wedding style often gives people permission to look beyond the current bridal playbook. When someone with Taylor’s level of visibility chooses a quieter, more understated piece, it can elevate that aesthetic in the public imagination, transforming it from an alternative choice into an aspirational one,” Sexton shares. “Rather than viewing simplicity as a compromise, consumers begin to see it as a deliberate expression of confidence, taste, and personal style.”

Sexton says she has seen Swift’s bridal jewelry influence consumer preferences, particularly through the growing demand for antique-cut diamonds and engraved bands.

“To me, Taylor’s choice reflects a broader shift in bridal jewelry toward pieces that prioritize individuality, comfort, and longevity. Rather than being reserved for special occasions, these are rings designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life, which is ultimately what makes them endure,” Sexton says.

But, make no mistake: Swift’s ring choice is hardly plain, Sexton notes. And brides-to-be are going to follow her lead toward subtle, minimalist sophistication.

“I see this frequently with my clients: When someone goes bold or embellished with their engagement ring, a more classic, restrained wedding band allows the engagement ring to take center stage. It also creates versatility; a minimalist or delicate band leaves room to add to your stack as you mark milestones, while still being beautiful enough to wear on its own,” she says.
