The jewelry associated with the new film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights has been as bonkers as the movie itself, full of drama, unexpected intrigue, and romantic gestures.
Think: a 100 ct. diamond necklace, faux hair in a bracelet, Elizabeth Taylor’s storied Taj Mahal pendant, and matching lovers’ rings with skeletons, roses, and thorns. Between media appearances by the film’s stars and the premieres in different cities, it’s been a monthlong parade of jewelry madness. Plus, there are all the jewels in the movie itself.
While director Emerald Fennell’s new take on the 1847 novel about the star-crossed romance of Cathy and Heathcliff—opening today in U.S. theaters—is getting mixed (but leaning positive) reviews, it’s admiration all the way for star Margot Robbie’s jewelry.
So let’s break it down into two parts: one, the jewelry worn to promote the movie; the other, the jewelry worn in the movie. If JCK had to grade Robbie’s team, led by stylist Andrew Mukamal, they’d get an A+ for doing their historical research and being slaves to lovesick jewelry. And we’d give a solid B to Fennell and the costume designers for the vibe-creating style in “Wuthering Heights.”
Fennell’s pedigree to do this work—adapting fashion-lavish literature—is pristine: She’s the daughter of a jewelry designer and an author, and sister to a clothing designer. And her first name is Emerald. We rest our case.
Jewelry on the red carpet

Robbie and Mukamal created a jewelry spectacle like few movies have ever experienced to get tongues wagging about “Wuthering Heights.” Four standout moments to consider: 100 carats of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds, a Brontë-inspired hair bracelet, the Taj Mahal Diamond, and matching Cece Fein-Hughes rings.
For the Paris premiere, Schwartz, a longtime Robbie collaborator, put the actress in a custom 100+ ct.champagne diamond choker with an old mine–cut central stone and a pear-shape pendant. Champagne diamonds are considered warm and romantic, and these made an ideal accompaniment to Robbie’s red Chanel couture gown. She wore a 15 ct. ring by Schwartz, too.
Robbie and Mukamal took one of their wildest swings for the London premiere, where the actress sported a replica of Charlotte Brontë’s mourning bracelet. According to Brontë lore, Charlotte (also an author) had a bracelet made after her sisters’ deaths with locks of their hair. The sisters, Emily and Anne, would have been proud to see a replica on Robbie, and it was perfectly appropriate for a movie about obsessive love.
At the Los Angeles premiere, Robbie wore the legendary Taj Mahal necklace—with its infamous inscription, “Love is everlasting”—that Elizabeth Taylor had received as a gift from Richard Burton during their stormy romance. Even Taylor’s people gushed about the symbolism. The heart-shape diamond was once worn by Mumtaz Mahla, who inspired the Taj Mahal.

On the press tour, Robbie and her costar Jacob Elordi wore Cece Jewellery rings showing a skeleton couple. There’s a lot of heavy breathing between the duo in the film, and to honor their connection, Robbie—who regularly donned jewelry by Cece Fein-Hughes and Jessica McCormack at “Wuthering Heights” press events and premieres—had given Elordi a custom-made Cece ring to match hers.
“The rings symbolize Heathcliff and Catherine, and a love that transcends time,” Fein-Hughes tells JCK in an email interview. “The skeletons are positioned exactly as they appear on the iconic film poster, entwined with roses and thorns, representing passion, beauty, and heartbreak. Engraved within is Emily Brontë’s timeless quote ‘Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same,’ alongside ‘C&H’ on either side, a quiet tribute to two characters, and two souls, bound together forever.
“It was such a special request to create these matching rings, not only to honor Wuthering Heights, but also the characters and the time Margot and Jacob spent together bringing the film to life,” Fein-Hughes says.
Chopard also got its flowers, with actress Hong Chau—who plays Nelly in “Wuthering Heights”—wearing the heritage brand for the press day and premiere in London. Hong selected a pair of high jewelry earrings featuring 1.43 cts. pear-shape spinels and 1.08 cts. diamonds, a ring from the L’Heure du Diamant collection boastind 9.05 cts emerald-cut diamonds, and a necklace from the Happy Spirit collection with 5.94 cts. diamonds.
Jewelry in the movie
British Vogue, Only Natural Diamonds, and blogger Katerina Perez have all previewed the jewelry that’s featured on screen. Robbie as Cathy is always a bit extra, and her vintage Chanel and other looks befit that attitude, according to award-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran, who told British Vogue that she wanted jewelry for the character that was “exquisite and bold.”
With the jewelry in Cathy’s hair, bejeweled crosses, and gold chains on the not really historically accurate costumes, “Wuthering Heights” can make you feel strong emotions about its jewelry as well as its romance. All in all, this is a jewelry and cinematic event well worth watching.
