In celebration of its 20th birthday, Amazon declared July 15 Amazon Prime Day—and now Wal-Mart has announced a special July sale of its own, also kicking off July 15.
In a blog post on the company’s website, Walmart.com president and CEO Fernando Madeira wrote, “We’ve heard some retailers are charging $100 to get access to a sale,” making a dig at Prime’s $99 annual fee. “But the idea of asking customers to pay extra in order to save money just doesn’t add up for us.” Wal-Mart calls its sales “rollbacks,” and they typically last 90 days. Madeira said that free shipping will be available on all orders under $35 until further notice (it is normally $50).
Amazon previously announced that Prime Day will feature “more deals than Black Friday.”
