Prime Day to Rival Black Friday, Amazon Says

Amazon is celebrating its 20th birthday by declaring July 15 Prime Day, declaring that the event will have “more deals than Black Friday.”

The company is calling it a “global shopping event” that will be open to Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria. Amazon Prime costs $99 per year, and members receive free two-day shipping on millions of Amazon items, plus video-streaming services. Analysts have estimated that there are 50 million Prime members worldwide, with 30–40 million of those in the U.S.

Deals will start at midnight and be announced every 10 minutes, and all purchases will be eligible for free shipping.

“Prime Day is a one-day-only event filled with more deals than Black Friday, exclusively for Prime members around the globe,” said Greg Greeley, vice president Amazon Prime.
