No need to spinel it out—if your customers are sophisticated and jewelry savvy enough to appreciate its unique rarity and nuanced spectrum of colors, the gem speaks for itself. And in the hands of Omi Privé, the spinels don’t speak so much as call out to you with an insistence that makes it impossible to look away.
August is a great time to highlight spinel jewelry because it’s known to many in the jewelry trade as an alternative birthstone (because not everyone born in August loves peridot). Getting the word out to consumers is another story, but Omi Privé is certainly doing its part.
“We do get more requests for spinel in August, however it is still not known by most jewelry salespeople, as it is not featured on all birthstone lists yet,” says company president and head designer Niveet Nagpal. “This month we’ve sold two spinel pieces and a few loose stones. When we tell people that it’s been added as the August birthstone they get very excited. Overall, we’re doing more spinel business, and I would definitely attribute some of it to its being a new birthstone option.”
As the recipient of five of this year’s AGTA Spectrum accolades (including the first-place prize in the Classical division), Omi Privé is of course well-known for having extraordinary colored gems, from Paraiba tourmalines to a perfectly matched trio of padparadscha sapphires.
But today, we’re spotlighting 10 sublime examples of spinel magic. And if you’re an August baby? As they say in my neck of the woods, fuhgeddaboudit…
