Swatch Says It Doesn’t Need Partner for Smartwatch

Swatch has downplayed a report in the local press that it is working on a new smartwatch with chip giant Intel, saying tech partnerships were not a priority.

“Swatch Group owns all the necessary technologies,” said spokesperson Bastien Buss. “It is true that we are the desired partner for virtually all tech/consumer electronics companies. We have worked with many of them, as a supplier of various important and strategic components (see Garmin, along with others). We do not exclude that there could be an even deeper cooperation. However, it is not our priority.”

Swatch had previously announced it is working on a smartwatch that will be released in 2015.

Intel did not respond to a request for comment, but it has previously said it is working with Fossil on wearable technology tied to its brands.
