Swatch Plans Smart Timepiece Focused on Fitness

Swatch Group confirmed that it plans to add some smart health-oriented features to its Swatch Touch next year.

This marks the company’s first attempt at a so-called smartwatch, a category that the company’s CEO Nick Hayek had previously downplayed.

The new timepiece will remain a watch, but it will include fitness features with a “Swatchy” touch, added spokesperson Beatrice Howald, who declined further comment.

Hayek told Reuters that big tech companies want to collaborate with it on a smartwatch.

“I don’t rule out that we are or could be collaborating in some areas,” he said. “But we can also do many things on our own.”
