Simone I. Smith x Sergio Hudson Jewelry Collab Is Rooted in Faith and Legacy

Jewelry designer Simone I. Smith and fashion trendsetter Sergio Hudson celebrated both Black History Month and New York Fashion Week (NYFW) with the debut of their new jewelry collaboration during Hudson’s NYFW show on Feb. 13.

The 28-piece Simone I. Smith x Sergio Hudson collection is full of texture, contrast, and meaning, using geometric shapes and Adinkra symbols from the Akan people of Ghana to bring Black culture and diasporic design tradition to the runway, Smith says.

She describes the jewelry she created with Hudson as regal and refined. Prices range from $800 for the heart-shape Patience pendant in onyx or mother-of-pearl to $5,000 for the Promise necklace featuring 18k yellow gold over sterling silver and 5.5 cts. of simulated diamonds.

“This collection reflects where I am right now—bold, rooted in faith, and intentional about legacy,” says Smith, whose brand is known for its iconic hoop earrings, sculptural silhouettes, and symbolism in jewelry.

“The symbols we chose carry deep meaning: God’s protection, patience, God’s child, abundance, and greatness,” she explains. “I wanted every piece to feel intentional—not just decorative, but meaningful. Each one represents something spiritual and affirming.”

Motifs in her Hudson collection are sacred because each one tells a story, Smith says—the heart shape speaks to patience and tolerance, the wisdom knot reflects ingenuity and intelligence, a star symbolizes faith and belief in a supreme being. There is also a purposefulness to the materials used throughout the collection, she notes.

“I chose onyx because Black is beautiful. Black paired with gold feels sexy, clean, and undeniably classy,” says Smith. “I chose mother-of-pearl because pearls are timeless and represent strength to me. A pearl is formed through pressure—that’s resilience, grace, and power.”

Smith says that she found her match in Hudson—who founded his namesake luxury women’s ready-to-wear brand 10 years ago.—and that designing with him felt like a joining of like minds and souls. Showcasing their pieces together on the runway illustrated how well they worked together, she adds.

“His fashion eye is amazing,” Smith says of Hudson, a favorite of such celebrity fashion icons as Beyoncé, Blake Lively, and Tracee Ellis Ross. “He understands structure and proportion in a way that complements my designs. There was natural alignment, which made the collaboration seamless.”

“These pieces are bold, but the earrings are on the smaller side compared to some of Simone I. Smith and Sister Love designs. Those collections are known for larger-scale drama,” Smith says. “This collaboration is bold in presence, not necessarily in size. It’s elegant, elevated, and sexy, with refined confidence.”
