Sarine Technologies announced that CEO David Block (pictured) will step down effective June 30, concluding nearly a decade as CEO and close to 25 years with the company.

During Block’s nine-year tenure as CEO, Sarine introduced several major technologies, including automated rough diamond planning systems and AI-powered clarity- and color-grading tools, and expanded its Sarine Diamond Journey traceability platform.

“While it is time for a new chapter, I leave with deep appreciation for the innovation and leadership we brought to this industry, the amazing team I was privileged to lead, as well as the close partnerships we nurtured along the way,” Block said in a statement.

From 2006 to 2009, Block managed Sarine’s Indian subsidiary, where he helped establish operational and commercial infrastructure that continues to support the company’s business. In recent years, the company said, his focus shifted toward downstream and retail-facing technologies, including a strategic partnership with De Beers’ Tracr platform and the acquisition and integration of GCAL, the Gem Certification & Assurance Lab.

Founded in 1988, Sarine is a publicly traded company that develops and sells technologies for the planning, analysis, processing, and grading of diamonds and gemstones. Headquartered in Hod Hasharon, Israel, Sarine operates subsidiaries in Israel, India, the United States, and Hong Kong, and is listed on the Singapore Exchange, where it was the first Israeli company to trade. The company is known for early adoption of artificial intelligence in diamond grading, and operates laboratory facilities in Israel and India that use AI-based grading systems.

Daniel Glinert, Sarine’s executive chairman, thanked Block for his long service and expressed support for a “professional transition.” The company did not immediately name a successor.
