On April 29, Sanjay Kanaiyalal Shah (pictured), a partner in KBS Group, one of India’s largest diamond companies, died. He was 60.

Shah was a longtime member of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s (GJEPC) Kimberley Process core team and convener of its Diamond Panel Committee. He joined the World Diamond Council board in November 2021 as a representative of the GJEPC. He was also active in the International Diamond Manufacturers Association.

“Sanjay epitomized the sense of community and commitment that we are so proud of in our industry,” said Edward Asscher, World Diamond Council president, in a statement. “Giving of his time selflessly to international bodies like the World Diamond Council, and closer to home in India. Our thoughts go out to his wife Sangita, his children and their families, his colleagues, and his company. He will be sorely missed, but his memory will serve as a beacon for all of us.”

On LinkedIn, the GJEPC wrote that Shah “will forever stay in our hearts. Our condolences to his family and loved ones.”
