Oscars Jewelry 2019: These “Winston Women” Did Everything Right

Lest we forget that another iconic American jeweler was well-represented on Sunday’s  Oscars red carpet, here’s a closer look at how Hollywood stylists like Karla Welch, Cristina Ehrlich, and Elizabeth Stewart accessorized their clients in a blindingly gorgeous array of diamonds from the one and only Harry Winston.

Said Dame Helen Mirren on Instagram: “Thank you, Harry Winston. You made me feel like a queen for the night.” And we have to think that her fellow “Winston Women,” including those who joined Mirren in wearing gowns of pink, felt precisely the same way.

 SARAH PAULSON

The presenter wore a Brandon Maxwell gown with a “lace collar” (i.e., Harry Winston’s Guipure diamond necklace featuring 55.7 cts. t.w. diamonds set in platinum). LINDA CARDELLINI

A member of the Best Picture winner Green Book’s cast, the actress paired a ruffled tulle Schiaparelli gown in the label’s founding designer’s signature shocking pink with Harry Winston’s diamond Belle earrings and The One ring featuring a 3.07 ct. cushion-cut diamond set in platinum (photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic; courtesy of Harry Winston).

HELEN MIRREN

One of Hollywood’s most revered, accomplished, and effortlessly elegant leading ladies, Mirren opted for a gown that artfully blended the loveliest sherbet shades in cascades of pleated tulle, also by Schiaparelli. With it she wore the Incredible Winston Cluster Suite featuring more than 235 cts. of diamonds. The necklace alone, a winning combination of pear- and marquise-cut diamonds, weighed more than 136 cts. (photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic; courtesy of Harry Winston).

LAURA DERN

When she took the stage to present a preview of the upcoming Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, all eyes were on the actress’s River Cascading diamond drop necklace, the most perfectly glamorous accessory for her custom Rodarte gown of Bordeaux-colored leather. A piece with so much presence needed backup in the form of a vintage diamond bracelet, plus diamond stud earrings and two delicate diamond bands (photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images; courtesy of Harry Winston).

JENNIFER HUDSON

The singer/actress certainly brought the heat in her structured red Elie Saab gown, but apparently left her memory in the limo! But we’ll forgive the star, who performed “I’ll Fight,” a nominee for Best Original Song, for blanking on the designer of her earrings during a red carpet interview because the vintage diamond chandeliers from 1972 were an outstanding choice for her hairstyle, the vibe of the gown, everything (photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images; courtesy of Harry Winston).

Top: Several stars wore diamonds from iconic New York jeweler Harry Winston to the 2019 Oscars, including Linda Cardellini (top left) and Laura Dern. The bracelet shown here, a vintage design from 1959, was part of Dern’s suite but was decidedly upstaged by her River Cascading necklace (photos courtesy of Harry Winston).
