My 5 Favorite Blogs of 2014

Reflection typically plays a role in every year’s end, and while I’m thrilled to see some posts get a lot of viewer clicks, oftentimes these aren’t among my overall favorites. Here are my top five favorites posts this year and why.

What It Means to Be Involved With WJA. In the spring I articulated feelings about being involved again with the Women’s Jewelry Association, and those sentiments have only grown stronger. It’s a pleasure and privilege to call many of these members friends and to serve on the Metropolitan Chapter’s board.

Guest Blog: An Open Letter to Industry From Andrea Hansen. One of the wonderful aspects of writing this blog is the freedom I have to open it up to guest writers with worthy thoughts and opinions to share. Hansen, the founder of LUXE Intelligence in New York City, inked a powerful and timely message to industry right before the Las Vegas shows, urging it to shop with an open mind.

Tanzanite Foundation’s Hayley Henning: As Valuable as the Gemstone She Promotes. At the end of August, I learned that industry darling Hayley Henning would no longer head up the U.S. office of the Tanzanite Foundation due to a corporate decision to close the office. Henning is a fixture in industry, beloved for her sincerity, smile, and serving as the quintessentially polished and poised spokesperson for any cause or group she champions. Expect to see more smart moves from her in 2015.

10 Things New Jewelry Designers Need to Know. This recent post was penned with my friend and industry powerhouse Cindy Edelstein of the Jeweler’s Resource Bureau, who helps jewelry designers start strong businesses. We share similar passions and are often asked for tips by newbies, so we created this list of the key points that new designers need to know when trying to establish themselves in the competitive world of jewelry design.

3 Lessons I Learned From Scott Kay. Industry lost a legend just a few weeks ago, and he happens to be someone I truly admired. His kids will surely take the brand into a new era with the help of some high-profile recruits their pop put in place earlier this year, and the lessons he imparted to many will certainly be top of mind in the process.
