Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, celebrated her 40th birthday on Wednesday and, for the occasion, she recorded a video with Melissa McCarthy that was posted onto the Archewell Foundation website. The video called for 40 of Meghan’s friends to take 40 minutes of their time to help women who’ve lost their jobs due to the pandemic get back into the workforce.
As appreciative of altruistic initiatives as they may be, eagle-eyed jewelry- and fashion-watchers zeroed in on what Meghan was wearing in the video. They noted her Manolo Blahnik BB suede rust-colored pumps and a white cashmere shawl collar sweater by Co, but they specifically focused in on the two delicate necklaces she was wearing on her décolletage. One was a Taurus constellation necklace in 14k gold and diamonds, $1,600, by Los Angeles designer Logan Hollowell, honoring the birth sign of her son, Archie. The other was a Gemini constellation necklace in 14k gold and diamonds, $1,785, also by Logan Hollowell, for her newborn daughter, Lilibet.
We have seen a rash of celebrities wearing zodiac sign necklaces of late. Both Jessica Alba and Gigi Hadid were spotted wearing Taurus necklaces, while Kendall Jenner has been seen in a Scorpio piece, and Rihanna in Pisces.
Similarly, jewelry lines are feeding the demand for pieces that are increasingly personalized, and zodiac signs, amulets, and talismans fit into the trend perfectly. As JCK has reported, designer Brent Neale recently expanded her mushroom series to include zodiac signs. Jemma Wynne designers Jenny Klatt and Stephanie Wynne Lalin have said they, too, are focusing on their ’70s-inspired zodiac necklaces, primarily because they are symbolic and reflect a customer’s unique characteristics. Even less expensive lines like Sterling Forever are capitalizing on the trend, offering customers Meghan’s look for less.
What’s fun is that customers can mix and match—wear their own signs or, like Meghan, those of people who are near and dear to their hearts.
