Los Angeles Jeweler Creates ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Jewelry

You can now follow the yellow brick road to your nearest retailer to purchase jewelry inspired by Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful—starring Mila Kunis (named brand ambassador for Gemfields earlier this week) and James Franco. Los Angeles jewelry designer Joe Vilaiwan has created couture necklaces, cuffs, and earrings corresponding to the reinvented fairytale.

Vilaiwan spent time in the movie’s prop room to create his six individual collections. Those who want to mimic the femininity of Glinda can wear pieces from the Good Witch Collection (there’s also a Bad Witch Collection if you favor an edgier statement). Naturally, the Emerald City Collection is up-to-date with the latest trends, considering the green hue is the color of the year. Vilaiwan also created a Yellow Brick Road collection, as well as a China Doll and Garden collection to coincide with the new story. The collections feature pieces in 14k white gold over silver, 22k gold over brass, and precious, semi-precious, and custom-made crystal.

Each statement necklace features up to 600 individually knotted strands of the forementioned crystals, and required 50 hours of construction. The pieces, ranging from $150-$3,200, are available at select retailers including Gallery of Wearable Art and Peipers + Kojen in New York City, as well as boutiques in major U.S. cities.

“In keeping with my signature style, I designed the Oz The Great and Powerful jewelry collection as wearable art. I think of them as sculptures that sparkle from every angle, but move very sensually with the body,” Vilaiwan said in a statement. “My clients are my celebrities, and I like making them look and feel like one.”
