Halloween hasn’t officially happened yet, but I’m already ready to hang the Christmas decorations. The same probably can be said for retailers, who are well into holiday mode by now.
My inbox this month reflected that transition almost perfectly, kicking off October with the macabre and gothic jewels of Halloween season before fairly quickly giving way to festive styles and highly giftable pieces.
And those gift-worthy jewels looked a lot like what we’ve been seeing everywhere lately, from show floors to the broader market: personal pieces, designs rich with storytelling, plenty of sterling silver and two-tone creations, and an abundance of charms. Rich, bold gold isn’t going anywhere, either—high prices be damned.
Of course, October couldn’t pass without plenty of its opal birthstone, a favorite among designers and consumers alike.
Altogether, this month’s submissions feel like a pretty accurate snapshot of where jewelry is heading into the holiday season: colorful, meaningful, collectible, and more than a little fun. If that’s what’s waiting under the tree this year (paging Santa!), I’m more than ready to skip ahead.
