It has been a very January January. There’s no glossing over the catastrophes that have marred our first month of 2025, there is no magic pill or potion. And jewelry, as much as we revere it, does not possess the magic we might need.
Still, jewelry has served a fine purpose. From raising funds for those affected by the Los Angeles fires to keeping us entertained on red carpets, jewelry (and the jewelry industry) is doing what jewelry does best—commemorating, symbolizing, and, if you believe it, offering strength and protection. While it may seem a luxury to some, jewelry feels wholly relevant in times good and bad. A self-serving sentiment? Perhaps, though I’ll bet most of you agree with it.
So we push on, gearing up for Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day, enjoying the sights and notes from new collections, taking in the month’s birthstone—vibrant garnet—and rediscovering our love of brown gemstones and east-west and elongated diamond engagement rings.
Even as the various troubling issues and events have left us feeling like Jan. 31 couldn’t come quickly enough, there have been glimmers from my inbox that made January almost bearable. Here are some of the memorable pieces.
