JCK Jewelry Agenda: Week of Nov. 22

It’s Thanksgiving week, so let’s talk turkey! But before we do, there’s a lot to talk about this week in the way of retail strategies, Elsa Peretti, gratitude (Los Angeles style), and the latest headlines (via podcast). And then there’s Black Friday—are you ready?

Plus: a gorgeous new book on Andrew Grima that promises to be both a wonderful diversion and, for someone on your list, a great holiday gift.

Andrew Grima: The Father of Modern Jewellery (ACC Art Books)

Andrew Grima book
(Book cover: courtesy of ACC Art Books)

If your jewelry taste tends toward the bold, sculptural designs typical of the 1960s and 1970s, this monograph celebrating the work of master jeweler Andrew Grima is an essential addition to your library of jewelry books. Born in Rome, Grima and his family moved to London to escape the tyranny of Mussolini; later, Grima would become jeweler to the royals and London’s swinging jet set. Today, Grima is widely recognized as one of the greatest—and most collectible—modernist jewelers of all time. His descendants continue to produce jewelry under the Grima name, using his signature design codes: highly textural gold, organic-meets-geometric motifs (starbursts, lichen, shafts of wheat), and gemstones in unexpected cuts and shapes.
