Right on the heels of the Academy Awards in Hollywood comes the jewelry industry’s answer to the Oscars. The Gem Awards celebration, which returns to its longtime home, Cipriani 42nd Street, is extra special for JCK this year: Amy Elliott, the magazine’s longtime All That Glitters columnist, is nominated for the Gem Award for Media Excellence. Check out all the other nominees here.

NAJA Virtual Conference on Organic Gems: March 18, 12–4 p.m. ET (online)

Organic gem materials can be challenging to evaluate. Not only can subtle differences in quality have significant influence on value, but treatments and imitations can be tough to recognize. The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers presents a half-day virtual conference on organic gem materials, such as coral, South Sea pearls, and amber, to give appraisers the info they need to value organics accurately. ($25 for NAJA members, $50 for nonmembers)
