Is it Mother’s Day already? In my first year as a mom of two, I’m lucky if I know what day of the week it is. Toss in (sort of?) recovering from a pandemic, and that mom mush brain is in full gear.
Thankfully, our editor-in-chief Victoria Gomelsky (also a mom) was on top of things and recommended 12 gold jewels in time for Sunday’s upcoming holiday.
Which is precisely why I got to thinking about all the moms in this industry who turn out covetable goods time after time with some manner of brood at home, whether their kids are tiny or grown, human or covered in fur. And don’t get me wrong, this is a feat even if a person isn’t a parent, but I keep making the mistake of putting the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the cabinet, so, as a learning mom of two, I’m in awe of these accomplishments (for those who’ve experienced this, my brain will return to normal at some point, right?).
So apologies, retailers, as this roundup of fabulous goods is in no way right on time for Mother’s Day, a holiday that, if you’re fortunate, many of your customers have already shopped for. But then, isn’t this what customers crave these days—a connection with the creators of the goods they buy?
As so many people value their identity as a mother—and value their connections with other mothers—what an opportunity to introduce your shoppers to the designers you stock that share that common bond. “She’s a working mom of three, like me,” they’ll say. “An empty nester, like us,” or, “she just became a grandmother, like me.” Beautiful jewelry can lure onlookers, but forging connections can create customers—and even friends—for life.
These pieces are by just a small sample of some of my favorite designing moms—the industry is filled with their talent and their stories, something for many others out there to fall in love with.
