Hindman’s Important Jewelry sale is just around the corner. On Dec. 13, the Chicago-based auction house will host a vast offering of diamonds and stones of all cuts and varieties. One piece, in particular, highlights the sale: the 25 carat, emerald-cut unheated Ceylon sapphire ring shown below.

Hindman sapphire ring
Ring in platinum with a 25 ct. unheated emerald-cut Ceylon sapphire and baguette-cut diamonds (lot 100), estimate $20,000–$40,000

“There are multiple factors that make our cover sapphire ring special: First, that it is 25 carats,” Hindman’s director and senior specialist for jewelry and watches, Sally Klarr, tells JCK. “A stone of that size in gem quality is quite rare. The second factor is that it has a beautiful cornflower blue hue to it— typically, fine sapphires are a deeper blue, but some very fine examples have been sourced from Ceylon [Sri Lanka] in this lighter blue color, and this is a perfect example of that color.”

Hindman Faberge
An antique Russian nécessaire (also shown at top) in yellow gold with old mine–cut diamond, estimate $8,000–$12,000

Additionally, the sale includes an antique, Russian nécessaire (lot 65) from the Prominent Midwest Collection of the Pamela K. Hull Trust with a maker’s mark of A.W. Holmström, associated with the Fabergé workshop.

Hindman brooch
A brooch in platinum with an approximately 15 ct. emerald-cut pink tourmaline, French-cut aquamarines, and diamonds; estimate $5,000–$7,000

And formerly from the Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower Collection: Property of the John S.D. Eisenhower Trust, an exceptional pink tourmaline, aquamarine, and diamond brooch (lot 128) will be on the block. “This sale boasts a fantastic collection of diamonds in all shapes, sizes, and qualities,” says Klarr.

Bidding is available in person at Hindman’s Chicago sales room, absentee, or online and begins at 11 a.m. ET.
