Evangeline AdaLioryn’s Fantastical Jewelry World

Share

Sculptural jewelry is a category that’s been much discussed of late, and no brand defines it better than AdaLioryn.

Founded by Los Angeles–based designer Evangeline AdaLioryn, the company released its debut collection last September and has quickly earned attention for its highly expressive aesthetic and hand-carved approach to design. Oversize gemstones, fluid metalwork, and otherworldly silhouettes give the AdaLioryn collection a cinematic quality that stands apart from more traditional fine jewelry offerings—just what customers have been in the mood for.

AdaLioryn’s breakthrough moment came at the 2021 Met Gala, when actor Hunter Schafer wore one of AdaLioryn’s dramatic gemstone brooches across the bridge of her nose (she wore three of her one-of-a-kind rings as well), instantly introducing the brand’s sculptural, art-driven point of view to a global audience.

AdaLioryn’s background in sculpture clearly informs the aesthetic of her jewelry, from one-off pieces (a ring designed for Zendaya!) to her inaugural collection, the Genie’s Gift. Below, a few questions for the designer.

Tell me about the Genie’s Gift—its inspiration, your design process, and the story you wanted the collection to tell.

The Genie’s Gift is a collection of jewelry that I believe was shown to me by something greater than myself to bring down onto Earth. I also believe each stone has agency and, if you listen, will tell you its story, and how to dress it, how to hold it—intentions are everything with jewelry for me.

I remember when I was younger, finding out how uncomfortable and intense the process of making a pearl was. It told such a story of how hard it is to grow, yet those painful chapters of life bring us these amazing pearls. In my mind I saw adorning a teardrop pearl with a crown of 18k gold and diamond, an honoring of the pain that we overcome and endure. With the Genie’s Gift, I hope people can see that AdaLioryn is here and creating work that not only can be beautiful but can help you grow and evolve.

Your designs feel highly artistic and expressive. How do you balance fantasy and wearability from a commercial standpoint?

I am always wondering why we don’t bow to fantasy more. When I was developing visions of what AdaLioryn’s signature chain—the Genie’s Rope—would be, there was so much time and consideration [given to] how to make it comfortable and wearable yet hold all of that intention behind it.

The links were inspired by a Henri Vever pocket watch chain on exhibition at the world’s fair, and the sword charm was developed to represent justice in how we communicate, and the portal-window of a cathedral where light and wind can pass through, from the heavens through us. All of these elements were shifted and melded until I found the perfect balance. Even for people who don’t wear jewelry every day, this chain with all of its magic is now their everyday piece. I think if we can elevate our everyday experiences with jewelry, it brings us closer to our best selves.

In a market saturated with minimalist fine jewelry, do you think consumers are craving more escapism and emotion in design?

I really believe that people are starting to realize that magic is possible and needed again in design. My more seasoned jewelry clients, who have been collecting for 50-plus years, are always so happy when they see designs that incorporate fantasy, magic, and intention. What is more brilliant than gold and natural gemstones, which took millions of years for the earth to make? We should take our time and learn what story and intention each gemstone has to tell.

I do think minimalistic designs can be so powerful if there is an intention and handcraft to them. There’s a beauty in wearing an AdaLioryn ring that has an air of Renaissance with an old-school minimal Cartier ring. The map of time is ours to wear.

Your work has such a strong visual identity online. How has social media influenced the way customers discover and shop the collection?

I am very old-school in my way of thinking and behaving online, perhaps to a fault. Whether it’s my website or my Instagram, I want those spaces to be used as a shop window, and I don’t take a shop window lightly. Just decades ago, setups for store windows would take weeks to prepare for unveiling. They made people stay and look and dream. I think it’s why I use still lifes so frequently—they are my show windows. I’d love a space of my own one day where I can really bring clients into a whole world.

What’s next for the brand as we reach the halfway point of 2026?

The next collection, the Ribbons, is AdaLioryn’s first capsule collection, releasing in June. I have been working on my own versions of a solid gold band, and with new techniques I’ve learned how to weave ribbons of gold around simple band structures. They are more minimal for me, yet somehow so illustrious at the same time, reinventing the wheel of a solid gold band. It’s been a wild chapter learning how the smallest of decisions can create so much movement.

Currently my hands are working on a collection to be released in the fall. I’m inventing what a signature pearl and diamond AdaLioryn ring is and working with these amazing royal red spinels and aquamarines from Marcus McCallum in London. I can’t wait to show you!
