The Diamond Dealers Club (DDC) has appointed Adam Small (pictured) to be its new general counsel.

He takes over from William Lerner, who served as general counsel for the New York City–based bourse from 2013 until August 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile. Lerner recently became technology counsel for Samsung SDS America.

In his new role, Small will be responsible for general corporate duties in addition to ensuring that the DDC’s arbitration function continues to run smoothly.

Before joining the DDC, Small served in various in-house counsel roles. For the last 10 years, Small worked in the retail energy industry focusing on contracts, dispute resolution, and general corporate work. At Major Energy, he led litigation and negotiations with attorneys general, public utility commissions, and individual customers. While at Alpha Gas and Electric, he advised on the regulations related to selling innovative electricity and gas products.

Prior to entering the energy industry, Small worked at an immigration practice, focusing on asylum applications for people who were persecuted in China. He has also worked at Ernst & Young’s tax practice with a focus on research and development tax credits.

Small holds a JD from St. John’s University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park.

“The DDC is very pleased to be adding an individual who can continue the great work previously provided by William Lerner, and has the skill and experience needed to successfully enhance our operations and meet our goals for growth and member satisfaction,” said Diamond Dealers Club president Elliot Krischer in a statement.

“I am excited to join an organization with such a storied history and eager to contribute to the long-standing practice of arbitration, to remedy disputes related to members,” said Small in the same statement.
