Designers Are Clear on Why They Love Translucent Jewelry

It’s crystal clear why translucent jewelry pieces were spotted all over the spring and summer runways in Paris and Milan—jewelry designers say this chic look is ideal for the warmer months ahead.

“Working with clear Lucite is perfect for hand-sculpting. Its quality of creating a sense of frozen motion in its ripples and refraction is a sculptor’s dream,” designer Alexis Bittar tells JCK.

If colorless jelly shoes can come back in 2026, then clear jewelry should have its moment as well. Another jeweler who is ready for everyone to get on board with the see-through-ness of it all is Alison Lou creative director Alison Chemla.

“The idea wasn’t reactionary for us—it was already part of our design language,” Chemla says. “We were working on these pieces ahead of the broader trend, thinking about how to make diamonds feel like they’re floating, suspended in something almost invisible. When the trend started gaining traction, it felt more like a natural alignment than a pivot.”

Last month, model Barbara Palvin was spotted out and about during Paris Fashion Week wearing some of Alison Lou’s clear and “Loucite” jewelry, including the Prism ring and Drip Drop earrings.

Translucent jewelry offers a kind of quiet luxury, says Chemla, and can have a long life within someone’s overall wardrobe.

“It strips everything back and lets the form, the stone, and the light do the work,” she says. “Clear pieces feel weightless and effortless, yet still elevated. They go with everything without disappearing.

“I also love how they play with perception. Depending on how they catch the light or sit on the skin, they can feel subtle or like a statement,” Chemla adds.

Nicole Spruill, who’s designed a variety of statement bangles and rings in Lucite (as well as other jewelry and clothing) for the Nik Spruill brand, says, “I was drawn to the way it interacts with light and form in a more sculptural, intentional way. If it aligns with what’s trending, that’s great, but the goal is always to create pieces that feel distinct and lasting beyond a single moment.”
