Britt’s Pick: Solanales Crystal Lake Flower Pin By Alexis Bittar

The children’s book Winter Is Here by Kevin Henkes sums up this time of year perfectly. There is a page describing the process in which winter leaves, and it does so beautifully.

“Winter comes and then it stays and stays and stays, and when it’s time to leave, Winter shrinks away bit by bit. It slows down getting smaller drying up slipping down the street, around the corner, peeking back then moving on out into the world, into the air, into…spring.”

That’s where we are. In the Northeast, some days reach 70 degrees while others barely make it out of the 30s. Just when spring seems to be getting a foothold, winter comes and blows it away. I’m confident we’ll see more snow at some point before it’s finally over.

But during these seasons of transition, we look to things that bring spring a little closer—things that make the season tangible. This flower brooch from Alexis Bittar is utter perfection for that need.

Spring has sprung no matter the weather with a glance at the Solanales Crystal Lake pin, a lively gathering of hand-carved and hand-painted Lucite petals, enamel, and crystals.

In Sunset Flower (the pin is also available in Midnight Forest, a dark, glossy green), the Lucite flower petals glow a pretty orangey-pink, striking a wonderful balance with the 14k gold–plated brass detail and green enamel stem.

The flower’s size is lovely too—definitely one to be seen from afar, though not so large that it couldn’t be pinned to a hat or even a headband to accessorize one’s ‘do. It looks splendid on a jacket, but once the weather warms and the sleeves are put away, there’s no need to store this away with them.

Keep hope, spring is near. But in the absence of patience, an accessory such as this will get you there a little faster.
