Britt’s Pick: To a Flame Ring by Melanie Casey

I told myself I’d stay off social media throughout the holiday. Take a break, absorb my family, read a book, just stay off my phone in general. I probably don’t have to tell you how hard that was. I’d find myself on a sort of autopilot, picking up my phone and heading straight for the Instagram icon, observing my feed for a few moments before saying, “Oh, shoot!” and shutting it down.

It went on like this all week. Though, it did make somewhat of an impact—fewer visits left me a little less reliant on the habit, and in fact I’ve still yet to return to doing much posting myself. And yet, I’m as strong an advocate for the platform as ever, for its ability to connect people, brands, and things.

Because anytime a visit to Instagram did slip through this holiday, I was rewarded with something special. One such special find was this set of wedding rings from Melanie Casey.

Not for the first time, I find myself wondering if I should take up a collection of engagement rings a la Victoria Beckham. The style of these rings is so different from the chunky gold piece I wear now that I couldn’t possibly compare them, nor do I want to choose between them.

The setting of the engagement ring has hints of the cluster-esque style sported by a late-2020 headline-making Ariana Grande, though on the other hand it’s nothing like that at all. Delicate and dainty, the so-named To a Flame ring is inspired by the idea of magnetic attraction, its smaller series of diamonds being pulled inward to the center stone—like moth to flame. The design becomes all the more alluring once you hear the story behind it: It’s not a randomly set series of diamonds but ones perfectly symbolic of an irresistible romance.

In one image, the engagement ring was styled with a lovely little number dubbed the Diamond Distance band, which features nine sparkling diamonds spaced apart in what I think is an image illustrative of the constellations, though the designer’s website notes the stones represent life’s milestones—also an endearing sentiment.

One thing is for sure, it’s either incredibly easy to be getting engaged right now (so many amazing options) or very hard (too many to choose from!). The wedding jewelry category is more exciting than ever, and its incredible variety is one of the best things to see on Instagram these days.
