Britt’s Pick: Aquamarine Cushion Ring By Lauren Sigman

Share

If you liked the collection of aquamarine engagement rings I put together for On Your Market last week, here’s one more.

From Lauren Sigman Collection, the eponymous brand based in Winter Park, Fla., this piece has March’s birthstone in a spectacular state.

The stone: a four-carat-plus cushion-cut aquamarine sourced from Mozambique in a concave fan brilliant style, cut by Mark Gronlund. Peer into the stone and it looks as if you could fall down the rabbit hole into a dizzying world of wonder, and that would be a very good thing. Gronlund is an eight-time winner in the Cutting Edge category of the AGTA Spectrum Awards, and the stone’s result speaks volumes of the experience.

As the designer, Sigman knew exactly what to do with the stone.

“I’m always drawn to stones that are cushion cut,” Lauren Sigman, the ring’s designer, tells me. “When I saw this large aquamarine and all of its facets, I knew I had to build a ring around it. The simplicity of the bezel design allows the aquamarine to take center stage, while the side diamonds add a little extra sparkle and visually break up the gold from the center bezel.”

The simple bezel setting—for both the aquamarine and its rose-cut diamond side stones—creates an artisan feel that has a twinge of the antique. The use of slightly chunky yellow gold mirrors the current demand for a bold aesthetic, but its pale blue and sparkling white stones have all the makings of a delicate fairy tale.

The ring is perfectly romantic for an engagement but would do just as well as a birthday gift for someone born in the month of March.
