Britt’s Pick: Annoushka’s Hoopla Heart Smiley Earrings

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but that certainly doesn’t make heart jewelry any less relevant—in fact, the holiday may just be our yearly reminder to keep it coming.

I, for one, couldn’t possibly tire of heart jewelry; even after its annual appearance en masse, I’m happy to see more. Especially in styles as contagiously cheerful as these earrings by Annoushka.

From the brand’s exuberant Hoopla collection, the hoop earrings dangle removable faces, which have polished gold smiles and heart-shape eyes made of garnet.

Who can get enough of the heart eye emoji? It communicates love, admiration, kindness, appreciation—all things glad and good. Wearing them often can provide a needed morale boost.

Since the charms are removable, they can be strung on a chain for the neck or the wrist, so they can be worn no matter what one’s ear game is featuring that day.

“My approach is always playful and often tongue-in-cheek…I wanted to find a way of speaking to love and romance without it being sickly sweet,” says Annoushka Ducas, creative director of her eponymous brand. “The Cupid charm [a variation of the heart-eyed smiley face] is very cute, but the black and white diamonds and white gold give it an edge and the blushing cheeks a touch of naughtiness. For Valentine’s Day, we had blown these charms up jumbo-size and put them all over our windows. Whether celebrating Valentine’s Day or not, these charms make passersby stop and smile.”

While the icons were a big part of the brand’s Valentine’s marketing, they sure can give us something to smile about as the year goes on.
