Bold Earrings : The Latest Statement Jewelry

The inspiration for these new earrings designs is multifold, reflecting influences as varied as 1960s mod fashions and exotic world jewelry. Statement necklaces, so popular over the last several seasons, have helped many fashion lovers feel comfortable wearing huge, bold jewelry designs. The freshest place to wear them is dangling from the earlobes.

The January 2013 issue of Lucky highlighted the trend of “the serious statement earring” early in the season, noting: “After seasons of statement necklaces, larger-than-life earrings look fresh and original—especially for day.” Pictured are Bakelite earrings from Lulu Frost; bronze, turquoise, and onyx earrings from Pamela Love; and earrings bedecked with Swarovski crystals from Ben-Amun. Fashion consultant Shala Monroque is pictured at the top of the page in unidentified shoulder-dusters.

In the May 2013 issue of Elle, British singer Rita Ora wears head to toe Armani Privé, including huge fuchsia Swarovski crystal earrings.

The March 2013 issue of Elle urges readers: “Let your chic flag fly with ’60s-tinged Gallic classics and scene-stealing accessories reminiscent of a young Catherine Deneuve.” In the above photo, Elle combines huge pearl and diamond pendant earrings from Madyha Farooqui with an embellished rubber choker from Delfina Delettrez, a beaded silk hair tie from Ashish, Chanel gloves, and Prada bag to accessorize a jacket dress from Etro.

1960s-inspired mod looks are spotlighted in the March 2013 issue of Lucky. Here, a grid-pattern skirt and coat from Louis Vuitton is accessorized with huge resin disk earrings from Dinosaur Designs. The model also wears chic low-heeled sandals from AGL.

The March 2013 issue of Glamour looks to 1960s as well, focusing on mod fashions and especially checks, stripes, and black and white. The model above wears huge black and white earrings from Ranjana Khan with a Proenza Schouler dress.

Among the looks modeled by actress Danai Gurira in the March 2013 issue of More is this combination of an eye-catching silk print dress from Just Cavalli with vintage stone and bead earrings from My Inheritance, and a wood, enamel, rhinestone, and metal bangle from Lulu Frost. The shoes are by Jimmy Choo.

The May 2013 issue of Elle features Asian-inspired designs: “Bold chinoiserie motifs lend Eastern elegance to sleek dresses, ornate shoes, and statement jewelry.” Pictured are white gold earrings with diamonds and carved mammoth tusk from Bochic. The model at the center of the page wears an ensemble including fringe-style drop earrings from Balmain.
