AWDC President David Gotlib Resigns

Share

David Gotlib, who was elected president of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) in a surprise victory last year, has resigned from the post, according to a letter seen by JCK.

“This letter is to inform you that I am permanently resigning from my position [as president] and also as director of AWDC,” Gotlib wrote. He did not provide a reason for stepping down.

With G7 sanctions on Russian diamonds looming, some leading Antwerp manufacturers have expressed dissatisfaction with the way AWDC has handled the situation, complaining of a lack of “transparency and accountability” in a recent letter to AWDC brass. But it isn’t clear if that had anything to do with Gotlib’s decision to resign.

Gotlib was reelected chair of Antwerp’s Beurs Voor Diamanthandel in May. He didn’t respond to a request for comment by press time.
