Anna Martin (pictured) has a new title at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)—she is now the senior vice president of institute, industry relations.

She has served as GIA’s senior vice president and global head of business development and beneficiation since 2014.

“In this new role, Anna will devote her expertise and energy to help secure the institute’s future and ensure the success of our very important consumer protection mission,” said GIA president and CEO Susan Jacques.

Martin previously led the diamond and jewelry lending divisions at Standard Chartered Bank and ABN Amro. She served as a governor on the GIA board from 1997 to 2011, including as its vice chair from 2008 to 2011.

GIA’s business development functions will now be handled by Mark Buntz, GIA senior vice president and chief marketing officer, with a strong focus on the U.S., Chinese, and Indian markets.

Recently, Richard Pesqueira, a 30-year industry veteran who most recently served as director of Tiffany & Co.’s Las Vegas market, became vice president of business development, North America. That followed the decision by Matthew Tratner, its former director of business development, to leave GIA to become general manager and vice president of Sarine North America.
