Three other colored diamonds sit near the top. A Graff ring with a 2.88 ct. pear-shape fancy deep blue stone is estimated at CHF 1.7 million to CHF 2.5 million ($2 million–$3 million). An unmounted 8.11 ct. fancy pink graded VVS1 carries the same range, while an 18.03 ct. fancy vivid yellow is pegged at CHF 850,000 to CHF 1.6 million ($1 million–$2 million).

Colored stones are also well represented. A ring with a 5.027 ct. pigeon blood ruby is estimated at CHF 850,000 to CHF 1.3 million ($1 million–$1.5 million). Sotheby’s lists several large Ceylon sapphires as unheated, including a 69.44 ct. stone in a Harry Winston ring (CHF 580,000–CHF 750,000, or $700,000–$900,000).

Historic jewels include an 1883 convertible necklace attributed to Boucheron, with a detachable peacock feather and a heart-shape sapphire at its center. It belonged in turn to Helena Rubinstein and Jayne Wrightsman and is estimated at CHF 330,000 to CHF 650,000 ($400,000–$800,000).

A circa 1970 Bulgari necklace hanging 35 Burmese sapphires from a diamond bib was shown at the brand’s Tokyo exhibition and is estimated at CHF 130,000 to CHF 200,000 ($155,000–$240,000). A JAR Carnation brooch, built from a jade snuff bottle, is estimated at CHF 50,000 to CHF 100,000 ($60,000 to $120,000).

“The strength of this season’s High Jewelry sale lies not only in the exceptional quality of its diamonds and gemstones, but also in the breadth of collecting opportunities it presents,” said Jessica Wyndham, Sotheby’s head of high jewelry in Geneva, in a statement. “From important colored diamonds and unmounted treasures to exceptional creations spanning over a century of jewelry excellence by the world’s greatest jewelry houses, the sale celebrates jewelry in all its forms. It is a selection defined by rarity, creativity and craftsmanship, offering collectors the chance to acquire jewels of both enduring beauty and lasting significance.”
