With its new fundraising candle project, Greenwich St. Jewelers is collecting money for causes near and dear to co-owners Jennifer Gandia’s and Christina Gambale’s hearts: Puerto Rico, family, and clean water.
The sisters said Island Jewel, a limited-edition candle, is built from the scents of Puerto Rico and New York City, where their store is based. All proceeds from its sale will go directly to Rebuild.us, which is helping Puerto Rican families affected by the island’s ongoing water emergency, where reservoirs have run dry.
“Puerto Rico is where our story began, long before Reade Street, long before any of this,” said Jennifer Gandia. “Our parents carried their homeland with them every day they ran this business, and Christina and I have tried to carry it, too. So when we think about what is happening on the island, families without water, reservoirs running dry, the same kind of crisis our community has weathered before, it feels like something we need to be involved in.”
