Will Miley Cyrus’ Engagement Ring Set Trends in the New Year?

Share

Are you ready for it, Taylor Swift? Another pop princess has gotten engaged, and her chunky yellow gold ring from a celebrity-favorite jewelry designer is getting lots of attention for its trend-setting potential.

Miley Cyrus—the singer and actress known for her time as television’s Hannah Montana, her wrecking ball tendencies, and her ability to buy herself flowers—is engaged to rock musician Maxx Morando.

Cyrus debuted a sparkly ring on Dec. 1 at the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Jewelry designer Jacquie Aiche confirmed through her representatives that she created the buzzed-about piece, a custom 14k gold engagement ring with cushion-cut diamond. And that’s all she’d say.

In an interview today on Good Morning America, Cyrus said that her fiancé “did good” when it came to picking out the ring. The jewelry industry seems to concur.

“Very trendy for modern-day brides and perfect for everyday wear—I love it,” Eliza Walter, founder of Lylie Jewellery, says of Cyrus’ ring.

Lylie Jewellery Minerva
Nope, not Miley Cyrus’ ring. But this Lylie Jewellery Minerva solitaire ring ($8,615), in 18k yellow gold with a lab-grown diamond, has an east-west setting and chunkier look like Miley’s.

“Miley’s engagement ring is a very of-the-moment take on a classic silhouette,” says Olivia Landau, founder and CEO of the Clear Cut. “The diamond is set east-west in a chunky, bombe-style bezel in yellow gold—a look that feels a little bit rock ’n’ roll, cool, and modern, while still reading as very bridal.”

Landau estimates the elongated diamond at 3 to 4 cts., with roughly a 1.3 length to width radio. If it is a natural gemstone, it would cost in the $75,000 to $150,000 range, she says.

But Blue Nile’s vice president of merchandising, Daniela Tarantino, thinks Cyrus’ diamond weighs 4 or 5 carats, and she put the price around $300,000 to $450,000, according to a company statement.

Now jewelers around the world are wondering: Will bold engagement rings, like the one Cyrus is sporting, maintain their status as a 2026 trend to watch?

The trend started with the custom-designed engagement ring pop star Dua Lipa received earlier this year from actor Callum Turner, featuring a round brilliant-cut diamond set on a thick 18k yellow gold band.

“Dua Lipa’s is a half-bezel setting, and the stone sits slightly raised from the band. Miley’s, on the other hand, is embedded and flush with the band. They both have the same chunky, modern appeal, but the stone setting is slightly different,” said Tarantino in the Blue Nile statement.

Heavenly London pebble ring
Heavenly London’s Pebble ring ($515), in 14k gold–plated recycled sterling silver plated with a 2 ct. moissanite stone, would be on trend with Cyrus’ and Dua Lipa’s engagement rings.

“Rings are becoming bolder and more substantial as signet styles continue to resurge,” she said. “At the same time, celebrity influence is steering the industry toward more unique and refined engagement ring settings, moving away from strictly traditional looks.”

Heavenly London founder Maddy Sangster agrees. “It’s definitely not the dainty style that we’re used to dominating celebrity engagement rings,” she says. “It gives serious ‘main character energy,’ which is exactly where I see modern-day brides going with their ring choices.”

Sangster, who estimates Cyrus’ diamond in the 4 to 6 ct. range, says, “Miley’s ring has a serious presence. I love the fact that she’s opted for an elongated cut against a thicker gold band.”

So welcome to an audacious, more deliberate bridal style. And start stocking those solid, weighty band designs, as well as more east-west settings.

“We’re seeing our own clients ditch the delicate look entirely and opting for rings that feel modern, powerful, and ethical, which is very exciting,” says Sangster.

Top: Nope, that’s not Miley Cyrus’ engagement ring. But with a salt-and-pepper diamond in a custom setting from Rachel Boston, it’s the type of style that could trend thanks to Miley’s ring. (Photos courtesy of the brands)
