Inhorgenta Munich Canceled For 2021

Inhorgenta Munich 2021, the German jewelry fair that was scheduled for April 15 to 19, has been canceled, said organizer Messe München, making that show the latest cancellation stemming from the spread of COVID-19.

The next edition of the jewelry fair, one of the largest in Europe, will take place Feb. 11–14, 2022. Messe München is also planning another edition of its digital offering, Inhorgenta TrendFactory, in the fall. Dates for that event have yet to be announced.

In November 2020, show management moved the dates of its 2021 show from its traditional time slot in February to April, and extended the show’s duration to five days.

However, even the April dates no longer proved feasible, because of “the ongoing travel and contact restrictions designed to stop the spread of the global coronavirus pandemic,” according to a statement. “The decision was taken in detailed consultation with the advisory board, as well as exhibitors, visitors, and partners of Europe’s leading platform for jewelry, watches, and gemstones.”

Added Messe München chairman and CEO Klaus Dittrich in the same statement: “The spreading of the mutated virus poses a significant risk in terms of the further infection process. Even if an in-person trade fair were possible in the first half of the year thanks to the local situation in Munich, the Inhorgenta Munich would not be able to live up to its claim of being a highly successful international flagship event.”

Inhorgenta is just one of a number of trade shows and events that have been canceled or postponed this year due to the continuing spread of COVID-19. The Swiss fair Watches and Wonders Geneva will be held digitally this year.

JCK Las Vegas and sister show Luxury recently postponed their annual shows from their traditional times in June to August for 2021. Those shows are owned by Reed Exhibitions, which also owns JCK and JCKonline.
